New in LiteSpeed 5.2

• SmartCleanup

  SmartCleanup will maintain on disk a full backup set and intelligently remove backups that are no longer needed to restore the database. SmartCleanup is integrated with Fast Compression (formerly "SmartDiff") in the UI and available for use outside of Fast Compression.

• Fast Compression Backup Escalation

  New, default "Enable backup escalation" option automatically issues a full backup if a problem is detected with the existing backup set.

• Backup and Restore Options
  • The "Copy Only Backup" option is now supported in the Backup Wizard and Backup Database task (maintenance plans).
  • Using the Backup Wizard you can now select the "Create unique media" option to generate job code that creates a backup with a unique file name by appending a date/time stamp.
  • Now, using the Restore Wizard, you can restore attached files only.

• Maintenance Plans
  • Now, using the Cleanup History task, you can delete old historical data stored in the LiteSpeed repositories, including LiteSpeed backup and restore activity, log shipping history, jobs and maintenance plans history, DST status, and information about deleted backups.
  • For TSM backups, you can now create a new file space using the Back Up Database task.

• Log Shipping
  • Log shipping module logs additional LSN information under History reporting.

• Backup Manager

  • New patent pending technology for managing backups - Fast Compression is a wizard oriented tool that allows the user to specify under what conditions a differential or a full backup is triggered. The new wizard supports backup verification, file storage, scheduling, notification, and numerous other options.
  • Generate custom, dynamically created backup names using name variables.
  • Backup Analyzer - Enhanced to test destination striping combinations.
  • Activity Monitor - View connectivity activity and disconnect current database connections before restoring.

• Log Shipping

  • Added support for SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition.
  • Added support for SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.
  • Convert native log shipping plans to take advantage of Litespeed backup and restore functionality.
  • Synchronize subscribers without performing a full backup.

• Maintenance Plans

  • Full support for managing and converting native SQL Server 2008 maintenance plans to take advantage of Litespeed backup and restore functionality.

• Job Manager

  • Users may now specify the owner of a job during job creation.
